Vegan diets are catching on globally because they are healthier and more environment friendly. Celebrities choosing healthier lifestyles and diets is also one of the reasons more people have become aware about the benefits of being vegan. While for some celebs it is a passing fad, others are die-hard believers of standing up against animal cruelty. Here are some of the best known celebrities from around the world who will motivate you to be vegan, or at least to cut down on meat.

1. Aamir Khan

A famous Bollywood superstar, he has appeared in blockbusters like Dangal and 3 Idiots. He turned vegan in early 2015 when his wife showed him a video about how various lifestyle diseases can be avoided choosing a meat free diet.

2. Bill Clinton

The former US president actively promotes benefits of veganism and was PETA’s Person Of 2010. He took to a vegan diet due to health reasons, which also aided his weight loss. He has reportedly acknowledged that he might not have been around if he hadn’t become a vegan. *Although Bill Clinton is a major advocate for veganism, we do hear that in an interview in 2016, Clinton stated that although he prefers a vegan diet, at the request of his doctor, he began including organic salmon once a week to his diet.

The famous singer who has delivered classic hits has been vegan for more than 20 years. He says, “If you love animals, don’t eat them.” He believes in being sympathetic towards all animals, opposing cruelty of all kinds.

Singer, songwriter, and actress, Carrie Underwood rose to fame after American Idol in 2005. She has joined the league of celebrity vegans after the slaughter of animals for beef freaked her out. She gave meat up over time, but when she travels and vegan food choices are limited, she sometimes has an egg white for breakfast.

American singer-songwriter, fashion designer, and actress Gwen Stephanie is a vegan and this diet has been instrumental in her looking as svelte as she does. When asked about her diet, she emphasises healthy eating.

This director par excellence, who gave us Titanic, is a vegan. He says, “It’s not a requirement to eat animals, we just choose to do it, so it becomes a moral choice and one that is having a huge impact on the planet, using up resources and destroying the biosphere.” The vegan environmentalist’s executively produced new vegan documentary The Game Changers is set for release this year. The Game Changers will introduce the world to elite athletes, special ops soldiers, visionary scientists, cultural icons, and everyday heroes – each on a mission to create a seismic shift in the way we eat and live.

The famous actress and singer is vegan as well and says, “It makes you feel so much better.”  She credits her vegan diet for her weight loss after her twins and feels it enhances her energy. 

8. Joaquin Phoenix

Executive producer of Cowspiracy and loved for his Netflix series What the Health, Joaquin Phoenix is a staunch vegan. He has been actively involved with PETA in exposing wool, dog leather and exotic-skins industry.

9. Maggie Q

Actress Maggie Q is best known for her roles in Nikita, the Divergent series and the drama Designated Survivor. She has been a vegan for almost two decades. Her social media accounts are witness to how passionate she is about promoting the cause of veganism.

10. Michelle Pfeiffer 

The fiery actress is a vegan and feels that it has helped her stay healthy. She says it is what keeps her youthfulness, “I really noticed a difference in my skin not too long after switching to fully vegan.”

A vegan since 2014, the singer and actress, says that once she realised that animals were intelligent beings, she stopped eating meat. After her pet dog passed away, she completely stopped eating non-veg.

One of the staunchest proponents of veganism, the actress has been vocal about being against cruelty to animals both as a PETA ambassador and through her own foundation, the Pamela Anderson Foundation. Her father’s hunting put her off meat and in the course of her interaction with PETA, she became a vegan. She attributes improved digestion, skin and hair to this healthy lifestyle.

The septuagenarian, singer-songwriter of the legendary ‘The Beatles’ looks much younger than he is, for he has embraced veganism and had been vegetarian for a really long time before that (since 1975). Recently, he reportedly asked for vegan food for crew as well.

14. Stevie Wonder

A vegan since 2015, he famously said, “I don’t like eating meat”, on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke. The critically acclaimed singer announced on the show that he has been vegan for two years and enjoying it.

When Spider-man goes vegan, it is time to rethink diet choices. The Great Gatsby star became a vegetarian in 1992 and a vegan in 2009. Tobey says going meat-free was an easy adjustment for him and that he had a hard time eating meat even as a kid.

And when a sport-star of the league of Venus Williams goes vegan, you just can’t say it is not a good enough diet with enough nutrition. It was when she was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease that Venus chose to go vegan to stay fit for her game. She now mostly adheres to a raw vegan diet. Sis Serena mostly follows a vegan diet as well but Venus is the stricter of the two.
