Looking for a British pub with trendy interiors, an extensive range of drinks, a selection of unpretentious comfort food, and live music for a rocking night out? Check out Cask and Bangers! Adding to the zest of the buzzing Clarke Quay, this British Gastropub attempts to combine all the elements of a fun experience – music, sports, food and drink, in a relaxed ambience, and does so in style.
The interiors of Cask and Bangers are well thought out, with an impressive stage to host the in-house band and other performances. The rock legend posters, the records on the walls, the themed table-tops, and of course, the cute little phone booth complete the British experience. Energy, the popular Singapore band which also features the Singapore Idol Judge, Douglas Oliveiro, plays here Wednesday to Saturday. They play the current hits along with the old favourites from 80s and 90s including U2, Coldplay and The Police.
The sports seasons get busy here with games screened across the many plasma screens across the venue. The state-of-the-art sound system and the late closing hours add to the sports fans’ delight. On Friday and Saturday, they are open till 4 AM, so you know exactly where to go for that midnight fix of good music and gourmet food. What will make you ‘happier’ is that their happy hours extend to cover all Sunday from 5PM to 2AM. Their bar menu is exhaustive with the best of British craft beers, IPA, lager, gin, whisky, ciders and much more!
What’s more is that Cask and Bangers is one British pub where you will not lack in food choices. They have a varied food menu as well, with a selection of vegetarian dishes too.
The Veggies Burger (S$23++) has a crisp, homemade patty nestled on a bed of lettuce between charcoal buns. The burger is served with a side of Waffle Fries that are seasoned with garlic and herbs and will dissappear in no time. The Waffle Fries can also be ordered separately. *Note that the patty uses egg as a firming agent, so this might not be suitable for strict vegetarians.
The Veggie Lovers Pizza (S$20++) at Cask and Bangers comes topped with capsicum, zucchini, button mushrooms, sautéed brussels sprouts, fried onions and shaved parmesan. The pizza bases are made fresh everyday in the kitchen, which accounts for the freshness and the amazingly soft bases. Geanesh wasn’t too receptive to seeing brussels sprouts on a pizza but I definitely loved seeing my favourite vegetable on a pie, to me it was an uncommon and tasty surprise.
Moving on from Western food, Cask and Bangers has recently tried to bring India into the British Pub by introducing a British Indian menu to add an interesting element and to cater better to vegetarians. The ‘British India’ section on the menu features favourites like Masala Papad, Samosas and Palak Paneer. Below is a low down on the dishes we tried.
The Chilli Paneer (S$16++) is a winner, with soft and moist paneer cubes that are perfectly spiced and balance the tangy and savoury flavours. The dish is served with the mandatory spiced onion rings that add a crunch and a zing to the dish.
An Indian meal is incomplete without some dal and naan, so enter Dal Fry with piping hot Garlic Naan. The dal is smooth and tempered just right, imbuing the right flavours with suitable seasoning, making it one of my top picks of the night.
Rounding off our meal, Veggies Curry is a mildly spiced medley of fresh vegetables – cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potatoes, peas – in a tomato based gravy with all the right spice elements. The curry comes with a complimentary side of bread or rice and makes for a wonderful comfort meal.
Overall, Cask and Bangers is a fun and exciting addition to Singapore’s happening nightlife. A British-influence dining experience, great drinks and good music is what sets them apart from the other spots around. The energy, the vibe and the music will surely have you chuffed and coming back for more. Cheerio!

Preethi & Ganesh are our favourite writer-photographer duo. While Preethi is juggling two hats being mom to a naughty and adorable three-nager, and working as a HR Marketer; Ganesh is a Technology Sales Professional by week and a sports enthusiastic and passionate photographer over the weekend. While Preethi is a foodie, music lover, ardent toastmaster and a travel buff; Ganesh enjoys running (6 full marathons and counting) and plays cricket for a Singapore League team. Luckily for us, they share a common love for all things food (as long as its vegetarian) and enjoy working together on articles – his captures add the spice to her words.
